Team Rosters

The Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League Guidelines shall be administered by the Executive Committee, as constituted by the Bylaws.

Member Teams

The Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League consists of six teams:

North Fork Ospreys
Sag Harbor Whalers

Shelter Island Bucks
South Shore Clippers

Southampton Breakers
Westhampton Aviators

Roster

A maximum of 26 players for the season; if the number on the roster at the start of the season is less than 26, only four players up to the 26-player maximum may be added through July 1st, the roster cut-off date. A NACSB Letter of Commitment must be completed for every rostered player and filed with the President. Initial rosters must be filed with the President before the start of the season. Complete, final rosters and copies of the NACSB Letters of Commitment (signed by the player, Athletic Director or his/her official representative, and the team) must be submitted to the President by the roster cut-off date.

After the final (July 1st) roster, changes may be made with the concurrence of the President by telephone and listed to the League Office. Roster changes may be effected because of illness, injury, or voluntary withdrawal of a rostered player or by the dismissal of a player who is insubordinate, who fails to show up for practices or games, or who is indefinitely suspended by the League. Completed NACSB Letter of Commitment must be filed with the President for all players (both temporary and permanent replacements) rostered during the season. The Executive Committee may challenge member team rosters and may call the players in question. Complete and up-to-date roster data must be available to all scouts and to the opposing team at each game.  Current statistical information for participating teams should be available for scouts upon request.

Roster Additions from Other Summer Leagues

Late-arriving players from other summer collegiate baseball leagues must obtain a written release from their original team and a NACSB Letter of Commitment signed by the player and Athletic Director BEFORE the player can be added to an HCBL team’s active roster. The team’s General Manager is responsible for obtaining the release, and the President is responsible for obtaining the Letter of Commitment.

Player Eligibility

A team shall have at most four players from the same collegiate institution. Only college student-athletes may play in the HCBL. By definition, the player must have completed the spring college semester immediately preceding the HCBL season and have remaining college baseball eligibility. Notable exceptions will be made for incoming freshmen contingent upon approval of the Executive Committee AND  Major League Baseball.

Incoming Freshmen

Each team can have up to two incoming freshmen on their roster. An incoming freshman is a student about to become a freshman at an accredited college program as soon as the school year begins.

An incoming freshman player must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be at least 18 years old at the start of the season.
  • Committed play at a JUCO, NAIA, or NCAA Division I, II, or III program.
  • College coach’s approval.
  • Parental approval.

Disabled List

Players can be placed on the disabled list for at least one week at a time and a maximum of four weeks. Placing a player on the disabled list is effective when the President (or his designated representative) is notified. A team may add a player to take the player’s roster spot on the disabled list. The approval of the replacement player’s Athletic Director (or his/her official representative) must be obtained before the player participates in a game, and the replacement player must be notified of the temporary nature of his assignment. When the original player is ready to come off the disabled list, the man who substituted for him must be removed from that roster spot.

At the end of a continuous four-week period, if the player is still disabled, the team, at its discretion, may continue to leave the player on the disabled list one week at a time or permanently replace him, in which case a Letter of Commitment signed by the player, the Athletic Director (or his/her official representative) and the team is required. The President shall be notified when a player is removed from the disabled list
